Over 4 three hour class sessions students will learn how to MIG weld (GMAW) safely and effectively in a comfortable environment that supports complete beginners and experienced newcomers. Students will learn how to use the essential metal working tools (band saw, angle grinder, drill press, combination square, bench grinder…) and then work with the instructor directly over the final two sessions to design and create a class project (furniture, sculpture…).

Open to all skill levels. We will provide the tools, safety equipment and steel for your project. $450 + $50 materials/shop fee. Please contact ryanoconnormail@gmail.com or 917.388.0647 with questions.

Ryan O’Connor has over 15 years of experience building sculpture and furniture. He first learned to weld as an apprentice to Chico MacMurtie of Amorphic Robot Works and Kal Spelletich. He was a founding member of Madagascar Institute  which built multiple large scale installations for Glastonbury, Robodock, Coachella and Burning Man. He holds an MFA in sculpture from Goldsmiths College University of London and has exhibited his work internationally. For two years fabricating furniture for BDDW in New York. He taught welding at 3rd Ward Brooklyn for 4 years. He spent the last 2 years teaching sculpture at VCU in Richmond VA where he received a grant to visit and study the Ama free divers of Japan.
